A man hears a car pull up to his driveway in the middle of the night, followed by the sound of breaking glass, and starts to panic.
As he's in the process of burning his private correspondence, he's confronted by a masked man in black.
"Don't worry, comrade," the intruder says, "I'm only a burglar."
Variants have the intruder be a neighbor with "only" news of a disaster, like a house fire.
